UW-Eau Claire wins inside battle to clip Eagles, 78-52

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Dec. 29, 2008) –
Northwestern College didn't have a great start in their first of two games at the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic, as the Eagles fell to host UW-Eau Claire 78-52. The Blugolds from Eau Claire held a 57 to 32 percent advantage in overall shooting, spelling a rough night for NWC.

Eau Claire (6-3) scored 54 of its 78 total points in the paint, more than doubling Northwestern's effort under the hoop. The Blugolds also received 37 points from their bench.

Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) had a team-high 14 points for the Eagles, while Mike Schramm (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View) (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View) added 13 points. Northwestern, who has been strong on the boards all season long, was out-rebounded 42-33 in the game.

UW-Eau Claire's Dan Beyer led all players with 15 points, while 13 of his teammates also scored in the game.

Northwestern, now 6-4 overall, will play Jamestown College on Tuesday in their second of two games in the tournament.
