ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (Jan. 29, 2009) -- The Northwestern College won its ninth consecutive game on Thursday night following a 72-41 win over Crown College in the Storm's Wild Athletic Center. Everyone in a purple uniform saw plenty of time on the court, and all but two Eagles scored in the victory.
Northwestern made more than half of its shots from the field, including 63 percent of the team's attempts from behind the three-point line. The Eagles, who entered this week as the nation's third-best team in terms of rebounding margin, held their opponents in check tonight, owning a 34-16 advantage on the boards.
Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) was the game's high scorer, as the junior went 7 of 9 from the field for 18 points.
John Duren (Austin, Minn./Austin) (Austin, Minn./Austin) chipped in 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting.
Jacob Jarvis led Crown with 16 points. At 0-15 overall (0-7 UMAC), the Storm is still seeking its first win of the season.
Northwestern, who has a chance to be named in next week's NCAA regional rankings, improves to 15-4 on the season and 7-1 in UMAC play. The Eagles will take the weekend off before hitting the hard wood again next week in preparation for back-to-back games against Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther Colleges. The Vikings from Bethany Lutheran will welcome NWC to Mankato, Minn. on Friday, Feb. 6 for a 7:30 p.m. affair.
