Eagles defend winning streak in come-from-behind victory over North Central

MINNEAPOLIS (Jan. 14, 2009) – Down 19-6 after ten minutes of play, the Northwestern College men's basketball team finally was able to find the hoop, as the Eagles posted an 80-64 comeback victory over North Central University on Wednesday night. NWC went on a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to pull even with the Rams before taking an eight-point lead at halftime. The Eagles were able to preserve the point differential from there, leading by 16 when the final buzzer sounded.

Despite committing 17 turnovers, NWC owned a 16-board advantage in rebounds while shooting an even 50 percent for the game.

Three players scored in double figures for Northwestern, including Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy), who led the Eagles with 18 points on 5 of 10 shooting. Brian Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) had a strong 17 points, while Reid Berens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles, who are winners of five straight, will return home for a game on Saturday, Jan. 17 vs. Crown College. The contest, which is in conjunction with Hoops Hysteria where someone will have the chance to win free tuition for a year at Northwestern, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
