Eagles win second straight UMAC game, beat Minnesota, Morris 2-0

Box Score

ST. PAUL (Sep. 26, 2008)
– The Northwestern College women's soccer team celebrated their long awaited home opener in winning fashion on Friday, defeating the University of Minnesota, Morris 2-0 at Reynolds Field. The Eagles scored two goals within the game's first ten minutes before holding off the Cougars for the remaining 90.

Anna Hilden (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) (Minnetonka, Minn./Southwest Christian) scored her first goal of the season 4:11 into the game, taking a cross from Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) and finding the back of the net.

Jorgenson, who scored 20 goals in her freshman campaign of 2007, tallied her first goal of the season five minutes later, putting the ball past a kneeled Emily Jacob in traffic to give Northwestern a 2-0 lead.

Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) and the rest of the Eagle defense took care of business for the rest of the game, holding off six Cougar shots. The freshman goalkeeper picked up her first collegiate win, recording two saves in the process.

Northwestern (2-5-0, 2-1-0 UMAC) will have little time to celebrate, as they will host Presentation College for a second conference game tomorrow. That game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
