ST. PAUL (Apr. 9, 2008) – Playing two matches in a matter of seven hours, the Northwestern College men's tennis team split their contests on Wednesday afternoon, losing to St. Mary's University before beating North Central University.
After losing two of the three doubles contests vs. St. Mary's, almost every singes match went down to the wire. Five of the Eagles' six matches went into tiebreakers in the second set, with

A few hours later in an indoor venue, Northwestern handed North Central an 8-1 loss, losing only the No. 2 doubles match in 9-7 fashion. The Eagles No. 1 singles player in
John Barnes (Nashua, IA/Nashua-Plainfield High School) (Nashua, Iowa/Nashua-Plainfield) led the way for his team, defeating NCU's Steve Svobada 6-3, 6-1.
After the day was over, Northwestern improved their 2008 record to 4-13 (2-1 UMAC). The Eagles will next play on April 15, when they travel to Morris, Minn. to face the University of Minnesota-Morris. That match is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
