ASHLAND, Wis. (Feb. 8, 2008) – The Northwestern College men's basketball team held strong after a nine-point lead at the half, handing Northland College a 74-59 loss and a season sweep. The Eagles forced 20 Northland turnovers and turned them into 21 points while earning 38 points in the paint.
Northwestern shot 47.4 percent, throttled by their 15-for-25 mark in the second half. Most of the Eagles' points came under the hoop though, as they shot a mere 23.1 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Northland countered with a 20-for-51 performance (39.2 percent) in the game. The Lumberjacks were led by a trio of players who reached double figures, including Ryan Cannata, who scored a team-high 12 points.
Daniel Hanson (Plymouth, MN/Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) tallied yet another double-double on the season, scoring 21 points to go with 12 rebounds. Hanson was joined by his brother Stephen (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy), who was 7-of-14 for 18 points. The younger Hanson was one rebound shy of his own double-double, collecting nine boards (five of which were offensive) on the night.
Mike Anderstrom (Woodbury, MN/New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) wrapped up the Eagles' top three scorers, adding 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting. Anderstrom was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line as well.
The first place Eagles (14-7, 9-1 UMAC) will travel to St. Scholastica on Saturday, where the Saints will try to avenge an earlier loss to NWC this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
