Box Score

ST. PAUL (Nov. 25, 2008) –
The Northwestern College men's basketball team won its first road game of the season on Tuesday night, defeating Macalester College 78-52 in Macalester's brand new Leonard Center. It wasn't a good debut for the Scots in their new gymnasium, as Macalester allowed Northwestern to make 57 percent of its attempts, including 53 percent from long range.

Northwestern dominated under the hoop, owning a 42-12 advantage for points in the paint while out-rebounding the Scots 45-24.

Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) led all scorers with 21 points, earning a double-double with 11 rebounds. The junior was 9 of 12 from the field, including a perfect 3 of 3 from behind the golden arch. Hanson also rejected three Macalester shots in the game.

Reid Berens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Brian Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) accompanied Hanson in double figures. Berens had 15 points, while Lecheler added 14 for the Eagles.

Paul Richie led Macalester with 12 points, while Colin Keely added 10 points, respectively.

Northwestern (3-0 overall) will take a quick Thanksgiving break before returning to the court on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when the Eagles host Hamline University. That game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
