Northwestern gets back on track with 83-62 win over Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. (Dec. 6, 2008) – Sophomore Brian Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) went off for 25 points, while Reid Berens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) added 17 points apiece as Northwestern College defeated Northland College 83-62. Both teams' UMAC records were evened at 1-1 after the game.

Northwestern shot over 50 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from behind the three-point line as they capitalized on 22 Northland turnovers with 27 points. The Eagles owned a 41-26 halftime lead and never looked back.

Berens added 12 rebounds to his 17-point performance, while Hanson barely missed a double-double with nine boards. Zeb Woiak had a team-high 19 points for Northland (2-6 overall, 1-1 UMAC).

Northwestern (5-1, 1-1 UMAC) will return to the north woods on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when they travel to Superior, Wis. to play the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
