SUPERIOR, Wis. (Dec. 10, 2008) -- Shooting woes hampered the Northwestern College men's basketball team, as the Eagles were on the losing end of an 83-65 final with the University of Wisconsin-Superior. NWC had three players in double figures, but an up-and-coming group of players for the Yellowjackets shot over 50 percent from both the field and behind the three-point line to take a 20-point halftime lead and an eventual 18-point win.
Northwestern was led by
Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy), who posted a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Brian Lecheler (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) added 16 points in the loss. The Eagles ended the game at 38.8 percent from the floor while shooting a dismal 2 for 15 from long range.
Jake Smith scored a game-high 22 points for Superior, while Dwight Hill chipped in 18 points for the Yellowjackets. UW-Superior (3-3 overall, 1-0 WIAC) committed 10 turnovers in the game while dishing out 15 assists.
Northwestern (5-2 overall, 1-1 UMAC) will play its next game on Saturday, Dec. 13, when the team drives down the road to Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
