Women's Soccer takes second at UMAC tournament finale

DULUTH, Minn. (Nov. 8, 2008) –
The College of St. Scholastica continued to have Northwestern College's number on Saturday, as the Saints posted a 1-0 win over the Eagles to sweep the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and tournament championships. Northwestern's only conferences losses this season have come at the hands of St. Scholastica.

Robin Johnson's goal in the 7th minute of play ended up being the difference-maker, as CSS preserved its shutout the remaining 83 minutes to claim the one goal victory. It was the 20th goal this season for Johnson, who is the Saints' all-time leading scorer. Sarah Bartlette assisted on the play via a corner kick.

St. Scholastica out-shot the Eagles 16-3 in the game.

Following the game, Northwestern's Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial), Rhonda Morgan (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek), Bridget Piche (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks) and Amy Green (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) were all selected to the UMAC All-Tournament team.

Northwestern, who continues to post one its best records in school history at 14-8, will play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) region tournament, which is hosted by Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. The tournament will either be played on Nov. 14-15 or Nov. 21-22. Stay tuned to nwceagles.com as updates become available.
