Kirby's goal in overtime lifts NWC over Martin Luther

NEW ULM, Minn. (Oct. 24, 2008) – The Northwestern College women's soccer team rebounded after a mid-week loss to Hamline, defeating Martin Luther College 2-1 in overtime. The Eagles, who didn't score until the game's 83:12 mark, posted two goals within ten minutes of one another to overcome the Knights' lead in extra innings.

Rebekah Kirby (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) scored the game-winner for Northwestern, taking a pass from Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) in the 93rd minute to secure the victory. The two traded places in the Eagles' initial score, as Jorgenson scored courtesy of a Kirby assist to tie the game at 1-1.

Northwestern held a 19-5 advantage in shots over the home team. 11 of the Eagles' shots were on goal.

Tara Kubiszewski (Andover, Minn./Meadow Creek) got the start in goal for NWC, recording two saves in 93 minutes of play.

Northwestern will play again in less than 24 hours, when they travel to Mankato, Minn. to face Bethany Lutheran College. That game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
