MOORHEAD, Minn. (Jan. 26, 2008) – The Northwestern College women's tennis team won their first match of the 2008 season on Saturday, defeating Concordia College (Minn.) 5-4.
The Eagles' doubles teams got things started in the right direction, as the partnerships of
Kayla Ross (New Hope, MN/Cooper High School)/
Wendy Miller (Roseville, MN/Saint Joseph High School) and
Rebecca Leland (Bricelyn, Minn./United South Central)/
Johanna Alex (San Pedro, Calif./Homeschool) both won their matches in 8-3 and 8-4 fashion. Concordia's No. 3 doubles team won the third combo match with Northwestern claiming a 2-1 lead.
Leland and Alex's win in doubles proved to be the difference-maker, as Northwestern won half of the singles matches to earn their season's first team victory. Alex (Crete, Greece/Homeschool), a freshman, won her first match as an Eagle.

NWC will travel to Hamline University on Friday, Feb. 1 for a dual men's and women's meet. Matches are set to begin at 3 p.m.
