Anderstrom Strikes 1,000 in Eagles Win

Box Score

MORRIS, Minn. (Jan. 26, 2008) – After suffering their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss to Presentation on Friday night, the Northwestern College men's basketball team regrouped for a 69-65 win over the University of Minnesota-Morris on Saturday. The win was extra special for two individuals, as the Eagles' Mike Anderstrom (Woodbury, MN/New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) became the 19th player in Northwestern history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. Joining Anderstrom in the personal accolades was Dave Zuleger (Wausau, WI/Wausau West), who recorded his 300th assist in the game.

The Cougars led 40-36 at halftime, but Northwestern rallied back in the second half to claim the four-point win. Northwestern was dominant in the paint, scoring 32 points under the hoop, compared to 16 for Minnesota-Morris.

Committing 17 turnovers the night before, the Eagles righted their ways on Saturday, yielding only seven turnovers to Morris, while turning 17 UMM turnovers into nine points.

Anderstrom was 5-of-12 from the field and 6-for-8 at the free throw line to equal 16 for the night. After being held to nine points the night before, it didn't take much for the senior to reach the plateau. Mike is the second Anderstom in Northwestern history to hit 1,000 points in his career, as brother Jon finished his four-year career with the Eagles at 1,032 career points.

Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) recorded a double-double, posting 21 points and 11 rebounds to pace Northwestern. Daniel Hanson (Plymouth, MN/Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) added nine points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Although he didn't score in the game, Zuleger made up for it in assists, posting six to go over the 300 mark for his career. Zuleger is now part of the school's top ten list in career assists, currently sitting at 305. Tim Aalsma's mark of 331 awaits Zuleger, who has a minimum of six games left to work at it.

Will Jenson had 17 points to lead Minnesota-Morris (9-8, 5-2 UMAC).

Northwestern (11-7, 6-1 UMAC) won't wait long before seeing UMM again, as they rematch in the Ericksen Center on Friday, Feb. 1. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
