Mounds View, Minn., Oct. 20, 2007 – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference's third-ranked team in Northwestern College hosted fourth-ranked Northland College in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon, with the Eagles sliding by the LumberJills in a 2-1 final.
Northwestern found the back of the net first, with
Amy Green (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) scoring off a pass from
Kyrie Jorgenson (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) (Decorah, Iowa/Decorah) at 20:56. Northland didn't wait long to score though, as Sara Strobino put the LumberJills on the board not a minute later at 21:48, tying the game at one goal apiece.
Caitlin Roberson (Bigfork, MT/Bigfork High School) (Bigfork, Mont./Bigfork) was the difference maker though, as the freshman put a goal past Northland's Brittany Ballwanz in the 35th minute to score the Eagles' second and winning goal of the game.
NWC's defense took care of the rest, backed by keeper
Rebecca Miller (Milton, WI/Milton High School) (Milton, Wis./Milton), who had six saves in the win.
The Eagles owned a slim 14-12 margin on shots, while the LumberJills had seven corner kicks, compared to Northwestern's five.
At 8-8-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the UMAC, Northwestern wraps up their regular season and will prepare for the UMAC Final Four tournament, which is hosted by St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. on Nov. 2 and 3.
