Duluth, Minn., Sept. 22, 2007 – Having not lost a game since Sept. 8, the Northwestern College women's soccer team entered their UMAC contest versus St. Scholastica on Saturday with momentum and endurance. The Saints put an end to the momentum though, as they continued their undefeated conference season with a 3-1 victory over the Eagles.
St. Scholastica came out with a vengeance, scoring all three of their goals within the first 20 minutes of play. Shannon Kresky scored first, putting a shot past a diving
Karen Kruse (Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) in the tenth minute. Sara Olson scored at 14:14 off a rebounded shot, followed by another goal less than six minutes later to give the Saints a 3-0 advantage.
After the remainder of the first half went scoreless,
Nikki Seviola (Circle Pines, MN/Centennial High School) (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) took advantage of an Eagles' penalty kick, scoring the Eagles first and only goal at the 54:31 mark. NWC failed to generate any further offense, and St. Scholastica preserved a 3-1 victory, handing the Eagles their first UMAC loss of 2007.
Seviola's goal was the third of her young season, having only played in two games this year.
The Saints dominated in the shots category, owning a 21-3 advantage.
Northwestern (2-3-1) will return home on Friday, when they host Presentation College at Reynolds Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
