MANKATO, Minn. (Jan. 19, 2008) – The Northwestern College men's basketball team continued their undefeated streak in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play Saturday, handing an 86-78 loss to the host Vikings from Bethany Lutheran.
Bethany kept a close check on Northwestern throughout the entire game, as the Eagles biggest lead came at the final buzzer when they held an eight point margin. Neither team hit double digits in turnovers in a game that featured six lead changes and 10 ties.
Northwestern shot 34 free throws in the game, converting 25 for a 73.5 percent mark.
Four Eagles hit double figures in the win, including
Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) and
Josh Strelecki (Crystal Falls, MI/Forest Park) (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park), who each scored 20 points.
Daniel Hanson (Plymouth, MN/Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Northwestern, recording his ninth double-double this season. Nearing the 1,000-point mark for his career was
Mike Anderstrom (Woodbury, MN/New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy), who added 11 points and five rebounds in the win. The senior currently sits at 990 career points, and is on pace to join Northwestern's 1,000 Point Club next weekend.
Travis Priem had a team-high 20 points for the 4-12 (3-2 UMAC) Vikings from Bethany, while Tommy Saffert and Andy Wills added 15 apiece.
Northwestern (10-6, 5-0 UMAC) will hit the hard wood again next Friday, when they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Presentation College, followed by a Saturday matinee at Minnesota-Morris. Friday's contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
