NEW ULM, Minn. (Jan. 18, 2007) – Martin Luther College gave Northwestern their best competition of the season in UMAC play on Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles won their third straight conference game with a 75-71 win over the Knights.
Northwestern gave Martin Luther all they could handle, as four different Eagles reached double figures.
Daniel Hanson (Plymouth, MN/Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) was everywhere in the game, scoring 17 points and bringing down 15 rebounds for a double-double.
Josh Strelecki (Crystal Falls, MI/Forest Park) (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park) and
Mike Anderstrom (Woodbury, MN/New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) each worked hard for 17 points to match Hanson, as the Eagles shot 39.1 percent from the field.
Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) added 13 points in the Eagles' win, chipping in seven rebounds.
Nathan Nass lit Northwestern up for 28 points in Martin Luther's loss, going 12-of-18 from the field.
Northwestern (9-6, 4-0 UMAC) will take a few hours off before playing again on Saturday. Bethany Lutheran will be waiting for the Eagles in Mankato, where another competitive game is sure to take place. All eyes will be on Anderstrom, who needs 21 points to go over the 1,000-point mark in his career at NWC. Tip-off at Bethany Lutheran is scheduled for 5 p.m.
