DECORAH, Iowa (Dec. 15, 2007) – The Northwestern College men's basketball team had their worst shooting performance of the 2007-08 season en route to a 69-63 loss to Luther College. After a 37-37 tie at the half, the Norse outscored Northwestern in the second half to secure the non-conference victory.
Neither team was outstanding on the Saturday matinee, as Luther's 41.9 percent overshadowed Northwestern's 39.1 mark. Both teams shot well below 40 percent from the field in the second half. The Eagles, who tried to make a comeback from the 3-point line, were only 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes, dooming NWC down the stretch.
Luther scored 15 points off of 13 Northwestern turnovers in a game that featured 10 ties and nine lead changes.
Stephen Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) was Northwestern's top scorer, netting 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a 3-for-4 mark on 3-point shots. Hanson accounted for three of the Eagles' five 3's in the game.
Mike Anderstrom (Woodbury, MN/New Life Academy) (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) added 14 points in the loss, while
Daniel Hanson (Plymouth, MN/Maranatha) (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) added 12 rebounds.
Austin Bildstein led the Norse with 14 points.
Northwestern, now 6-3 (1-0 UMAC), will take a break over Christmas before returning to action on Dec. 29, when they host Macalester in the Ericksen Center for a 3 p.m. affair.
