UNW Men Wrap up Play in Texas

GEORGETOWN, Texas – After playing 36 holes in Monday's opening round of the West Region Invitational, the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team was back at Berry Creek Country Club for the 18-hole final day of competition. The Eagles finished with a 54- hole score of +113 for a ninth-place finish, just one stroke behind eighth-place Howard Payne.

Day One (36 Holes)

Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was the low Eagle in both 18-hole rounds on Monday, and sits in 24th place, individually. The junior shot even-par on the front nine en route to a 76 (+4) in round one, then followed that up with three birdies and a 77 (+5) in round two, going out in -1. The freshman tandem of Carson Mersberger and Noah Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) are tied for 40th but took very different routes to get there. Mersberger fired an 81 (+9), including a birdie and an eagle on the front nine, in round one. In the afternoon 18, the rookie was Northwestern's highest-scoring player, but still shot a respectable 83 (+11). Frazell used a birdie on 10 to shoot 84 (+12) in the morning round before bouncing back with an 80 (+8), powered by two front-nine birdies, in round two.

Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool), who is in 44th place heading into Tuesday, used a pair of birdies to shoot 85 (+13) in round one, then finished the day strong with two back-nine birdies in round two, leading to a score of 81 (+9). Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) scored similarly, carding an 86 (+14) in his first 18, followed by a much stronger 82 (+10) in his second. Courteau is in 47th place entering the final round.

Tuesday's final round will consist of 18 holes and will begin at 8:30 AM. You can follow along with the live results here.

Day Two (18 Holes)

Each Eagle carded at least one birdie in Tuesday's final round in which they shot a cumulative +43 (using the four countable scores). Jackson Courteau (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) led the way with a 79 (+7) that included two birdies in his final five holes. The freshman finished in 40th place with a three-round score of +31. Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) was UNW's lowest scorer of the tournament as a whole, finishing in 31st place with a final tally of +19 after a final-round 82 (+10) that included a birdie on the par-four fifth hole.

Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool) and Noah Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) tied for 43rd place with a matching total of +34 across the three days in Texas, with both joining Seiffert in birdying the fifth hole. Skaar fired an 84 (+12) on Tuesday, while Frazell carded an 86 (+14). Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) turned in a 46th-place finish (+35) after shooting 87 (+15) in round three, which included a birdie on the par-four 16th.
