Three Eagles Recognized in UMAC Men's Cross Country Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced its 2025 Men's Cross Country Awards on Wednesday, and three University of Northwestern runners were recognized for their accomplishments both at the UMAC Championships last weekend, as well as their high character.

The full UMAC press release can be found here.

Tyler Dueber (Bloomington, Minn./Homeschool) was the lone Eagle to earn First Team All-Conference recognition, doing so in his first season of collegiate cross country. His 8k time of 27:57.8 at the UMAC Championships was a career-best and earned him a seventh-place finish. He was also named UMAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on September 3rd. Owen Van De Riet's (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) performance in Winthrop earned him Second Team All-Conference honors for the first time in his career. His personal-best time of 28:04.8 earned the junior a ninth-place finish, just four seconds away from making the First Team. Caleb Phillips (Poplar, Wis./South Shore) was also recognized with the All-Conference Second Team after a PR time of 28:49.6 at the UMAC meet, slotting him in 14th place. Phillips was also chosen as UNW's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team, speaking volumes about the freshman's character and attitude.

Northwestern will close out its season at the NCCAA Cross Country National Championships on Friday, November 14th in Joplin, Missouri.
