UNW Men Land Five on All-Conference Golf Teams

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced its 2025 Men's Golf Awards Wednesday morning, and the University of Northwestern was well-represented after a successful fall season which featured an NCCAA North Central Region Championship and a third-place finish at the UMAC Championship. Four Eagles were named First or Second Team All-Conference and one additional member was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

The full UMAC press release can be found here.

Shane Seiffert's (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) senior season produced his fourth selection to the All-Conference First Team after leading the team with a 74.3 scoring average to this point, which would set a new program record if it holds through the spring. The Corcoran native finished top-five three times and won two tournaments, including the NCCAA North Central Regional, and also tied the program record for low individual round (67). His 67 also contributed to the team breaking the program record for low team round with a 285. Joining Seiffert on the First Team was freshman Carson Besonen (Madison, Minn./Lac qui Parle Valley), who was right behind Seiffert with a 74.9 average, which is also below the current program record. Besonen burst onto the scene with a sub-70 win in his first collegiate event, and finished the year with two individual wins and four top-five finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the UMAC Championship. The rookie was also part of the record-breaking team round at the BLC Invite.

Another Northwestern rookie was selected All-Conference, as Luke Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) was named to the Second Team after a strong first season on campus. The freshman turned in three top-five finishes and twice shot under par, including a 68 (-4) in the final round of the Firebird Fall Classic, to make up his 75.4 scoring average. He was also a contributing member to the low team round record. Frazell was joined on the Second Team by senior Jakob Swanson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview), who completed his first fall season at UNW with a 76.6 average and two first-place finishes. His 67 at the BLC Invite tied the program record for low individual round and helped the Eagles break the low team round program mark. Rounding out UNW's inclusion in the Men's Golf Awards was Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah), who was selected as the team's representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Northwestern's fall season is not yet done, as its win at the NCCAA North Central Regional qualified the Eagles for their second-ever appearance in the NCCAA National Championship as a full team. UNW will compete October 20-22 at Hammock Beach Resort's Conservatory Course in Palm Coast, Florida.
