Men's Golf Wraps up Play at Central Kansas Classic

McPHERSON, Kans. – While the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team hoped to make it rain birdies at the Central Kansas Classic, mother nature apparently took things a little too literally. Originally set to be a 54-hole event with 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday, the event will now be shortened to 36 (18 on each day) due to Monday storms in the area. The field features 14 teams and 73 golfers, most hailing from the NAIA. Live scoring for the event can be accessed here.

Day One

Following one round of play, Northwestern finds itself in the top half of the field at seventh place. Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool), fresh off tying for the top spot at the UMAC Preview, continued his strong play on Monday at the par-70 Turkey Creek Golf Course, firing a 71 (+1) to put him just three shots back of the lead. He is in eighth place in the individual field and was -1 early in his second round of the day before the round was canceled due to the weather. Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) also turned in a solid round one showing, carding a 74 (+4) to put him in a tie for 22nd place.

Noah Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) was next down the leaderboard for the Eagles, as the freshman turned in a career-best 76 (+6) on Monday to place him in a tie for 31st. Not far behind Frazell was fellow rookie Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah), who is in a tie for 44th place at +8 (78). Carter Dilly (Henning, Minn./Henning) shot an 80 (+10) to close things out for UNW, who will begin round two play at 8:30 AM on Tuesday.

Day Two

After more inclement weather pushed back the second round even further, the University of Northwestern Men's Golf team was finally able to tee it up just after 10:00 on Tuesday morning. Gordon Skaar (Coleraine, Minn./Homeschool) was +1 through his first seven holes of the day when he hit a speed bump that dropped his score, but was able to recover nicely with four birdies in his final eight holes and three on the final three. Skaar finished the day with a 74 (+4) that put him at +5 for the tournament and in a tie for 10th individually. Shane Seiffert (Corcoran, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) added three birdies of his own en route to a 76 (+6) that got him to +10 for the tournament and placed him in a tie for 27th.

Noah Frazell (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) was the next lowest Eagle, carding a 79 (+9) that included a birdie on the 14th hole. The freshman logged a score of +15 for the two days combined and finished in a tie for 42nd. Carson Mersberger (Kiel, Wis./Elkhart Lake-Glenbeaulah) birdied the par-four fourth on his way to an 81 (+11) on Tuesday, +19 for the week and a tie for 52nd. Carter Dilly's (Henning, Minn./Henning) 85 (+15) included a birdie on hole nine and put him in a tie for 60th at +25 for the event. As a team, Northwestern finished in 10th place with a two-day score of +49.
