NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team entered Saturday looking to build off the positive momentum it had gained via thrilling finish versus Bethel University on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the Eagles weren't able to carry it over to Saturday's game at St. Olaf College, as the hosts prevailed by a 3-0 score.
Northwestern's defense was stout early on, but the offense was unable to kick things into gear. While
Samantha Hansen (Cottage Grove, Minn./New Life Academy) made five first half saves, UNW was only able to get off one shot in the opening 45. St. Olaf was finally able to break the scoreless tie with a goal in the 43
rd minute and took a 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission.
The Eagles fired the first shot on goal of the second half, off the foot of
Megan Kohrt (Monona, Wis./Homeschool), but it would be their one and only of the match. The Oles added insurance goals in the 52
nd and 61
st minutes to win the game 3-0. Northwestern dropped to 0-4-1 with the loss, while St. Olaf remained unbeaten at 5-0-1.
Kohrt,
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) and
Naomi Meehan (Waconia, Minn./Homeschool) provided the three UNW shots, with Kohrt's being on goal. Hansen was sensational, even in a losing effort, making nine saves.
Northwestern will open up conference play on Wednesday, September 18
th at home against Bethany Lutheran College. The women will kick off the doubleheader at 4:30 PM.
