Eckman Ties Program Record and Picks up an Individual Win With a 77; Eagles Win UMAC Preview as a Team

BECKER, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Golf team had only competed once on the season entering Thursday's UMAC Preview which gives the teams around the conference an early season glance into where they stack up against the rest of the teams in the conference. In that first meet, the Eagles turned in the most historic day in their program history, seeing the individual and team records for lowest rounds be broken. The team nearly matched that performance once again at Pebble Creek on Thursday afternoon.

UNW won the preview by 30 strokes, finishing with a team score of 329. Crown was the closest team behind the Eagles with a team round of 359. The Eagles had set the record for lowest round in program history at the UNW Invite earlier this season by shooting a 328. They missed that record by one stroke on Thursday, finishing with the second best round in school history.

Also at the UNW Invite earlier this season, Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) (a freshman) set the program record for lowest round by an individual with a 77 (+5). In Becker on Thursday, another freshman accomplished that same feat.

Morgan Eckman (Jordan, Minn./Jordan), playing just her second career collegiate event, shot a 77 (+5) to tie her fellow freshman for the lowest round in UNW Women's Golf history. She also picked up her first collegiate win, finishing atop the leaderboard by two strokes.

Paige Johnson (Zimmerman, Minn./Homeschool) was right behind Eckman in second place overall finishing with a 79 (+7). Kelly Van Den Bussche (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) picked up a top five finish by shooting an 86 (+14).

Mattie Krause (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake) finished a single stroke behind her teammate, landing in sixth place with an 87 (+15). Kirsten Darling (Coon Rapids, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) finished in a tie for eighth place by shooting a 90 (+18). Sondra Melby (Ham Lake, Minn./Legacy Christian Academy) rounded things out for the Eagles with a 92 (+20) which was good enough for 11th place overall.

The Eagles will look to continue their strong start to the season on Saturday, September 16th with a triangular against Bethel University and St. Catherine.
