WAVERLY, Iowa – University of Northwestern Women's Lacrosse traveled to Wartburg College for a Saturday afternoon conference contest. The Eagles defeated the Knights in a 15-2 final; increasing their MWLC record to 4-1 and their overall record to 9-4 on the season.
UNW exploded out the gate with seven consecutive goals to open the game. Wartburg severed the streak to make 7-1, but Northwestern scored the next five goals to close out the half leading 12-1.
Wartburg scored the first goal of the second half, but UNW answered with three more to close out the 15-2 win.
Maddie Hauer (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) led the Eagles attack with four goals in the game.
Lauren Paar (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) matched Hauer with four points, scoring a hat trick and notching an assist.
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) recorded a hat trick as well; her ninth of the season.
Ava Whitcomb (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) scored twice for UNW in the win. The trio of
Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown),
Emma Ruegemer (Cold Spring, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins), and
Ainsley Thompson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) each scored for Northwestern as well.
Smith led Northwestern's defensive effort with five caused turnovers; her eighth game this season with at least that many.
Maren Reu (Sioux Falls, S.D./Sioux Falls Christian) followed with three caused turnovers in the game.
Wiebold won 10 draw controls for the Eagles, powering UNW to a 12-7 advantage on the draw.
Up next, Northwestern will return home for their final scheduled regular season home game at Reynolds Field; a conference battle against Augsburg University on Wednesday, April 26 starting at 7:00 p.m.
