WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. – University of Northwestern Men's Tennis traveled over to Life Time Fitness in White Bear Lake to take on Saint Mary's University on Friday night. The Eagles took down the Cardinals in a 6-3 final, improving to 3-1 on the season.
UNW soared through the doubles contests.
Jacob Weddle (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) and
Davis Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) won their #1 match 8-6.
Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) and
Darin Rupp (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt) swept the #2 match 8-0.
Griffen Jarchow (Luverne, Minn./Luverne) and
Collin Hemann (Newton, Iowa/Newton) finished a 3-0 doubles sweep for the Eagles with an 8-7 (7-3) victory at #3.
Northwestern entered the singles matches needing only two wins to take the match. They ended up with three. Morrell got one of those wins in the top match, winning #1 singles 6-2, 7-5. Weddle earned a 6-2, 5-7, (10-7) win at #2.
Darin Rupp (Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt) picked up a third singles win at #3 with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Up next, Northwestern will head to Life Time Fitness in Bloomington next Saturday, February 25 for an 11:30 a.m. match against Saint Scholastica.
