ST. PAUL, Minn.- The University of Northwestern Women's Soccer team returned to Reynolds Field on Tuesday night to play a high quality NAIA team, Viterbo University. The visiting V-Hawks knocked off the Eagles in the battle of the birds, 5-1.
It did not take long for Viterbo to get their offense rolling in the contest. Grace Breuchel (who would finish the game with a hat trick) scored in the fifth minute to take an early lead. In the 27
th minute, the V-Hawks would cash in once again, taking a 2-0 lead.
The highlight of the game for the Eagles came in the 31
st minute when their defense forced a turnover and they quickly advanced the ball up to
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School). The junior collected the ball around the 30 yard line, turned, and fired a rocket towards the net that got past the keeper for her first goal of the season. The highlight reel goal made it a 2-1 deficit for UNW.
Briella Babcock (Byron, Minn./Byron) was credited with the assist.
However, the V-Hawks quickly responded. Approximately two minutes later, Viterbo got that goal back to make it a 3-1 game. That score would hold throughout the rest of the first half and the Eagles entered the locker room trailing by two.
In the second half, Viterbo would collect two insurance goals to win the game 5-1. Viterbo outshot the Eagles 20-10 in the game (10-5 shots on goal).
Reagan Flaschberger (Shoreview, Minn./Centennial) got the start in net for UNW and played the majority of the game picking up three saves.
