Eagles Fall in Regular Season Finale to Foresters

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team hosted the Lake Forest College Foresters Saturday afternoon for the final regular season game of the year and senior day celebration. A third quarter burst for the Foresters would keep themselves at arms length from the Eagles as Northwestern fell 9-5.

After winning the opening faceoff, Northwestern took two shots, with the latter shot coming from Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) who scored his 12th goal of the season. The Foresters responded 47 seconds later as they took the second faceoff and scored. There would be 13 more shots in the quarter with none of them hitting the back of the net as the game remained tied 1-1.

The second quarter was just as aggressive as the first as both teams continued to fire upon the net. Each team exchanged shots before Lake Forest found their second goal of the game and the lead. Northwestern would not let them cherish that goal for long as they used a man advantage to find a tying goal 36 seconds later with Sam Moses (Wasau, Wis./Wasau East) grabbing a pass from Will and putting it away. Moses slotted a second goal two minutes later before the Foresters found two straight goals to go up 4-3. In the dying seconds of the first half, Isaac Geurink (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) bounced a goal into the top corner to tie the game at 4-all going into halftime.

UNW outshot LFC 10-7 in the second quarter while Robert McHenry (Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) added three more saves.

The second half started in favor of Lake Forest and it would stay that way until the end of the game. After four straight goals to start the third for LFC, Guerink would stem the bleeding for a little bit, scoring his second goal of the game from a Moses assist. It would not be enough as the Foresters added one more goal and closed the game as UNW fell 9-5.

In the game, Jakob Montesi (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) led the Eagles in both caused turnovers and ground balls with three and five respectively. Offensively, Guerink and Moses both had two goals and Will had one while Moses and Will each had an assist. In the goal, McHenry added 10 more saves to his season total.

The Eagles celebrated four seniors before the contest: Peyton La Mere (Holmen, Wis./Holmen), Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake), Bryce Schmidgall (Hancock, Minn./Hancock), and Noah Kinniburgh (Crystal, Minn./Home School). The impact they left on the program in men's lacrosse will forever be remembered by Eagle athletics.
