ST. PAUL, Minn.- It was a battle of the birds on Wednesday night as the Northwestern Eagles hosted the UW-River Falls Falcons. The Falcons head coach is former Eagles' lacrosse legend Talia Hayes (Sherry). The Eagles fell 22-2 to the Falcons.
River Falls got off to a hot start on a rainy night at Reynolds Field. The Falcons played a nearly flawless first quarter as they led 8-0 after the first frame.
The Eagles started to show some life in the second quarter as
Ava Whitcomb (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) scored a goal off of an
Emma Ruegemer (Cold Spring, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) assist. UNW trailed 12-1 going into the halftime break.
River Falls played well once again in the third quarter outscoring the Eagles 6-0. In the fourth quarter the Eagles would get on the scoreboard once again thanks to an unassisted goal by
Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area), but it would not be enough as the Falcons would win the contest.
Brittany Clark (Shell Lake, Wis./) got the start in goal for the Eagles and made eight saves.
Reegan Duininck (Prinsburg, Minn./Central Minnesota Christian),
Maren Reu (Sioux Falls, S.D./Sioux Falls Christian), and
Grace Teal (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) led the Eagles by each collecting two ground balls.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, April 23
rd when they host Wartburg College at Reynolds Field. The game will mark Senior Day for the Eagles and is also the date of the "UNW Nation" promotion.
