Box Score MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- The Eagles Women's Soccer team played their second game of the week, and of the season, on Saturday night at Augsburg University and it was an exciting contest that came down to the final minutes.
Goals were hard to come by on each side right from the opening kickoff. It was a scoreless first half, and the two teams went into the locker rooms locked in a scoreless tie. The scoring drought continued for the two teams, as the 2
nd half began and it entered into the late stages of the game. The shutout continued all the way into the 87
th minute, when Jennifer Bobaric of the Auggies finally found the back of the net. That goal stood up as the winner, and the Eagles dropped the hard fought game 1-0.
The Eagles carried the shutout all the way into the final minutes, but it was not due to a lack of shots from Augsburg. Defense was the name of the game for the Eagles all night long as the back line of the Eagles held up against a very aggressive offensive attack from their opponents.
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) continued her great start to the season as she faced a lot of opportunities and stood up and made save after save. Fryer faced 29 shots and made 13 saves. It was a spectacular effort from the Eagles goalkeeper.
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School),
Kaylin Strike (Hanover, Minn./Buffalo), and
Amanda Kocurek (North Branch, Minn./North Branch) led the way for the Eagles offensively as they all fired a shot for UNW.
Northwestern competed hard against solid competition in the opening week of their season, and will be back in action on Thursday, September 9
th against Central College in Pella, Iowa.
