NCCAA Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week
Jessica Gross (Woodbury, Minn./New Life Academy) won all four matches to lead Northwestern to their 4th UMAC Tournament Championship in program history. Against UWS in the semifinals, Gross teamed with
Sabrina Bush (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) to take their doubles match 8-1 before winning singles 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3). Gross and Bush then won their doubles match 8-6 against CSS before Gross clinched the Championship with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
NCCAA Baseball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week
Owen Boerema (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield) pitched an 11-inning complete game masterpiece on the mound to carry Northwestern to a 3-1 win over Crown College to outright clinch the UMAC Regular Season Championship, the first conference championship for UNW since 1996. The sophomore allowed zero earned runs and just five scattered hits through his 11 innings of work, striking out 15 batters without walking anyone in a legendary performance that ended a 25-year championship drought for Northwestern. Boerema's emergence as an absolute ace on the mound has been a foundation of the Eagle's historic championship run. In his last four starts, the sophomore has earned four wins with three complete game victories, pitching 35.0 innings while allowing just one earned run for an ERA of 0.26 and striking out 51 batters for a K/9 of 13.11.
NCCAA Women's Outdoor Field Student-Athlete of the Week
Kacy Selje (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) placed fourth in the pole vault event at the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Championship with a height of 2.45m. The freshman also had a second place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 26.91 seconds, a second place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.22, and a sixth place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 13.66 seconds. Selje placed third overall with 27.50 points.
NCCAA Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week
Stewart Morrell (Elk River, Minn./Homeschool) won his singles match against UW-Superior, improving to 21-2 in singles matches on the year and passing the previous UNW Men's Tennis program record of 20 wins in a single season set by John Sanny in 1978 and tied by Caleb Kauss in 2012. The freshman broke the 43-year-old program record with a thrilling 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) super tiebreaker victory in the Eagles' conference semifinal match.
