ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern St. Paul Women's Lacrosse team closed out their 2021 season with a battle against Hamline University for the MWLC Tournament Championship on Saturday night, falling 14-5 to the Pipers.
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) led the Eagle's attack by scoring thrice to net a hat trick. The senior added an assist to lead UNW with four points on the night. Sherry also led UNW with five draw controls and tied for the team lead with five ground balls.
Samantha Wiebold (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) scored the first Eagle goal of the game in the 7th minute of the first half. Abby Scheel (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) scored the final UNW goal with seven minutes remaining in the second half.
Sherry, Scheel, and Cara Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) tied for the team lead with five ground balls each. Smith led the Eagles with three caused turnovers in the game.
Northwestern closes the season with a 6-5 overall record and a 4-2 record in conference contests, leading them to their first MWLC Championship appearance in program history.
