Men’s Lacrosse Wins MLC Regular Season Championship with 20-9 Victory over Scots

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern St. Paul Men's Lacrosse team won the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Regular Season Championship for the first time in program history on Saturday with an emphatic 20-9 victory over the Monmouth College Scots. With the win, UNW went undefeated in MLC contests with a 6-0 record on the season.

The Eagles celebrated Senior Day before the match, and seniors Mat Anderson (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville), Chase Marlenee (Northfield, Minn./Northfield), Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo), and Joseph Will (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) collectively accounted for 17 of the 20 UNW goals scored. Anderson had a career game for the Eagles as the senior scored a career high eight goals and led UNW with nine points while picking up five ground balls. Marlenee followed with six points on the day with four goals and two assists. Vander Kooi scored thrice to net a hat trick. Will collected three points with two goals and an assist.

Bryce Schmidgall (Hancock, Minn./Hancock) scored twice for UNW in the win and assisted with two more. Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) scored the first goal of the game to kickstart the Eagle's offensive explosion.

Brenden Schuffenhauer (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial) led Northwestern with 16 faceoff wins and seven ground balls.

Christoph Tisdale (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) earned his sixth win of the season in net, saving eight shots on goal.

Up next for Northwestern is the MLC Tournament in which they will be the No. 1 seed. They will host the MLC Championship on Saturday, May 8, and face the winner of the Semifinal match between Monmouth and Cornell College.
