ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference announced their women's soccer postseason all conference teams on Tuesday and the Northwestern Eagles were well represented. UNW had three athletes on the first team, three athletes on the second team, and one player named a sportsmanship award winner.
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) was recognized in the UMAC postseason awards for the fourth time in her remarkable career as an Eagle. Currie has been named an honorable mention twice in her career (2018, 2019) and entered this season with one appearance on the all-conference first team (2020). The senior ended her career in style, being named to the all-conference first team again in 2021. Currie had a strong season scoring five goals and assisting on three more. One of Currie's goals was a game winner. In addition to the statistics, Currie has been a calming presence in the midfield for the Eagles throughout her entire career.
Natalie Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian) was also named to the all-conference first team for her performance in 2021. This is Moeller's first appearance on the first team, and second appearance overall having been named to the second team in 2020. Moeller scored two goals this season from her defensive position, one of those goals coming off of an unbelievable ball she sent in directly off of a corner kick at Reynolds Field. Defense was a strength all season long for the Eagles, who finished in second place in the conference, and Moeller was a big reason leading the defensive group.
The Eagles made the all-conference first team a family affair as another Moeller was named to the squad. Sophomore
Megan Moeller (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) had a historic season for the Eagles and was named to the first team alongside her sister/teammate. Moeller was named an honorable mention in 2020. In 2021, Moeller emerged into one of the top goal scorers in the conference. The sophomore has 17 goals, and counting, in 2021. That mark puts her at second in the conference, and is the fifth highest total for a single season in program history. Moeller scored a hat trick twice this season and scored three game winning goals.
Megan Moeller's (Sheboygan, Wis./Sheboygan Christian School) spot on the all-conference first team was well deserved as she was an offensive weapon all season long.
RJ Mullin (Temecula, Calif./Rancho Christian) is another senior who added to her impressive resume as an Eagle. Mullin already had an honorable mention under her belt and added to that in 2021 when she was named to the all-conference second team. Mullin is another player who is strong in the middle of the field for UNW and contributes both offensively and defensively. The senior had strong statistics in her final season, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
The Eagles had a lot of goal scoring this season, but keeping the ball out of the net was also a big key to their success. Nobody played a bigger role in that part of the game than goalkeeper
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) who was named to the all-conference second team. This was the senior's first all-conference honor, and it was well deserved. Fryer was named UMAC Defensive Player of the Week multiple times this season and for good reason. The goalkeeper made 75 saves this season with a save percentage of 76%. Fryer had four shutouts of her own, and contributed in two other combined shutouts.
Mya Chan (Brandon, S.D./Homeschool) made a major impression in her rookie season with the Eagles, as the freshman was named to the all-conference second team as well. Chan was a strong defender for the Eagles this season, as the freshman showed a lot of poise playing on the back line for UNW in her first season of collegiate soccer. In addition to her play on the defensive side, Chan also had one goal and two assists. The future is bright for this Eagle freshman.
Trae Modaff (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) was also honored in the postseason awards, as the senior was named a UMAC Sportsmanship Award winner. Modaff was a great leader for the Eagles all season long and her sportsmanship was noticed by her teammates, coaches, and the conference. Modaff is a great example of how to compete with purpose.
The Eagles have had a strong season in 2021, finishing second in the conference and reaching the UMAC Tournament Championship Game. The Eagles' season is still going as the squad continues to wait to hear their NCCAA National Tournament fate. Updates to the schedule can be found at unweagles.com.
