PALOS HEIGHTS, IL.- The UNW Women's Soccer team had a strong regular season and earned a berth in the NCCAA North Central Regional Championship Game on Thursday afternoon. A bid to the NCCAA tournament was on the line as the Eagles squared off with the Trinity Christian Trolls. UNW fell to the Trolls 3-0 and saw their season come to an end.
Trinity Christian is one of the strongest opponents the Eagles have faced all season. The Trolls nearly made the NAIA National Tournament, but came up just short. The Eagles battled hard against the Trolls, and the elements all afternoon, as it was a cold and windy day in Illinois. The Eagles hung in there after an early offensive surge from Trinity, but were not able to generate enough offense to come away with the win.
The Trolls out shot the Eagles, 17-2. Both of the Eagles shots during the contest were on net.
Lauren Bosley (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) and
Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Home School) fired the shots for UNW.
Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) was fantastic in net, as she was tested with a lot of shots throughout the afternoon. The senior made nine saves.
The Eagles finish their strong season with a record of 12-7-2. UNW had postseason success in 2021, qualifying for the NCCAA Regional Championship game, as well as reaching the UMAC Tournament Championship game earlier in the season.
