ST. PAUL, Minn. – As part of our continued efforts to monitor and respond to developments of the COVID-19 outbreak, the University of Northwestern has canceled all athletic activities through the end of the spring semester. Because the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and guests are of utmost importance, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and President Alan Cureton made the difficult decision to transition all on-campus classes to a virtual learning environment effective Monday, March 23, 2020 and suspend all on-campus co-curricular and extra-curricular activities through the end of the spring 2020 semester. With this in mind, no athletic events, practices or competitions will be taking place. All students and athletes will remain off campus. All athletic facilities will be closed in order to mitigate any spread of the virus.
During this difficult time, Director of Athletics, Matt Hill, has shared a letter to our student-athletes. Read it

Per the NCAA's announcement on Thursday, March 12, all NCAA spring sports championships have been canceled. The NCAA approved a blanket waiver on March 13 for all student-athletes participating in spring sports as follows: (a) Waive the use of a season of participation for all student-athletes in spring sports. If an institution continues or re-starts its season, this relief would still exist; and (b) Waive the use of the spring semester towards their limit of 10 semesters/15 quarters, regardless of whether they used a season.
If you are a student-athlete that is interested in extending your time at Northwestern to gain back this season of play, please contact
Beth Wilmeth, UNW's Assistant AD for Compliance.
At this time, the safety of our students, coaches, staff, officials, fans and families is our top priority.
