CLERMONT, FLA -- The University of Northwestern softball team wrapped up Spring Games action on Thursday at Hancock Park. The Eagles put together two major innings and 11 hits to cruise to a 10-1 (five inning) win over the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. In UNW's second contest of the day, the Eagles met-up with powerhouse, Roger Williams, falling in a 5-0 final.
Northwestern moves to 4-12 on the year and finished the Spring Games with a 2-10 mark.
Shelby Stoll (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) led Northwestern at the plate on the week, combining for 12 hits, two doubles and a triple.
Faith Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Vallley-Watkins) hit .400 and added a .667 slugging percentage.
Northwestern 10, Pitt-Greensburg 1 (Five Innings)
The Eagles wasted no time getting things going in game one, putting together four runs on four hits and one Pitt-Greensburg error. The offensive series was jumpstarted by
Bridgette Kollos (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) with a single up the middle.
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria Area) doubled to left center to advance Kollos, who ultimately scored on a wild pitch.
Faith Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Vallley-Watkins) topped off the strong inning with a two-run homer.
The Bobcats earned one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but UNW would continue to groove. They scored six runs in the top of four on four hits and a UPG error. RBI's from
Ellie Ronning (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria Area),
Samantha Burkhart (Salix, Iowa/Westwood) (2) and
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria Area) (2) would give Northwestern a nine run edge.
Lexi Kopacek (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) threw five complete innings, allowing eight hits and striking out four to record her third win of the season.
Three Eagles secured multi-hit games including
Courtney Schmidt (Spring Valley, Minn/Kingsland),
Samantha Burkhart (Salix, Iowa/Westwood) and
Kendra Hardy (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria Area).
Roger Williams 5, Northwestern 0
In a hard-fought battle with a strong Roger Williams squad, the Eagles gave up runs in just two innings of play to fall to the Hawks. Roger Williams recorded nine hits to UNW's three.
Diana Boyce (Phoenix, Ariz./Park City) started in the circle for Northwestern, allowing nine hits and striking out two.
Samantha Burkhart (Salix, Iowa/Westwood) came in for 2.1 innings of relief, retiring all seven batters faced.
Faith Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Vallley-Watkins) tacked on two hits in the game, finishing the day 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and six total bases.
Miranda Tapp (South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul Secondary) was credited with UNW's remaining hit.
The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, March 24 when they welcome MIAC opponent, Bethel University to Reynolds Field. First pitch of the doubleheader in St. Paul is slated for 4:00 p.m.
