SUPERIOR, WIS. – The University of Northwestern softball team traveled to Yellowjacket territory for a pair of Upper Midwest Athletic Conference games Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles fell in a close 2-0 game one before dropping a 5-1 game two. UW-Superior has won six straight to sit on top of the UMAC standings.

The Eagles move to 13-13 on the year and are 2-4 in the UMAC. UW-Superior improves to 9-15 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

Game 1: UW-Superior 2, Northwestern 0
Despite out-hitting the Yellowjackets, 5-1 – the Eagles were unable to get runs across the plate. Superior's offensive production was the result of a Northwestern error, a stolen home base and a fielder's choice RBI.

Lexi Kopacek (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) executed a solid outing in the circle, throwing six innings and allowing just one hit and no earned runs. The loss moves her to 6-6 on the year.

Kayla Madison (North Branch, Minn./Forest Lake),
Courtney Schmidt (Spring Valley, Minn/Kingsland),
Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege),
Lexi Kopacek (Willmar, Minn./Willmar) and
Briggs Carlson (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) each tallied a hit in the game.

Game 2: UW-Superior 5, Northwestern 1
Things were looking up for the Eagles when they took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning in game two.
Ellie Ronning (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria Area) made contact on an infield (fielder's choice) to the Superior pitcher to score
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins).

Unfortunately, that would end the UNW scoring efforts while the Yellowjackets would add five more runs in the contest.

Abbie Nelson (Holdrege, Neb./Holdrege) pitched four complete, allowing three earned runs before Kopacek game in for relief. Nelson moves to 3-6 in the circle this season.

The Eagles tacked on six hits in the game led by
Kayla Madison (North Branch, Minn./Forest Lake) with two.

Northwestern will return to action on Saturday, April 16 when they travel to St. Bonifacius, Minn. to take on Crown College. The Eagles games originally slated for April 10 and 11 have been postponed. Check back to
