Women's Soccer Season Ends at UMAC Championship

DULUTH, MINN – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team traveled to St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon for the UMAC Tournament Championship against the Saints. The winner would advance with an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament beginning next weekend. The Eagles showed immense grit throughout the game but fell short as the Saints won with a 4-1 final.

The first half the Saints came out strong scoring two goals in the first ten minutes. Scholastica would score their third in the fifteenth minute.

Northwestern was able to pick up the pace later in the first half taking five shots on goal and keeping the Saints on her heels.

With the start of the second half, the Eagles were filled with energy and heart. Northwestern picked up the pace and were able to control the ball with more intensity and pace.

Defensively, freshman goalie Ellie Fryer (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville) had 3 saves. Northwestern took two more shots second half along with 4 corner kicks.

In the last ten minutes, the Eagles scored off of one of their corner kicks. Freshman Trae Modaff (Monticello, Minn./Monticello) sent a ball in to senior Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) who headed the ball into the net.

This concludes the season for the lady Eagles. Northwestern ends with an even 11-11 record and 7-1 during regular season play. They earned second place honors in the conference after the loss to Scholastica.

The Eagles will graduate four seniors who will be greatly missed: forward Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake), midfielder Emily Daubenmier (Kijabe, KE./Rift Valley Academy), midfielder Emily Currie (Minneapolis, Minn./Homeschool) and defender Ellyn Boland (Marshalltown, Iowa./Marshalltown).
