BELOIT, WIS. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-9 decision to Beloit College [1-9 overall] Friday evening in Wisconsin. Due to the deficit, the Eagles now move to 2-6 on the season.
In a dominant offensive effort, BC paced the first 30:00 frame, knocking in nine goals on the half to take a 9-3 advantage into the halftime break. Both teams turned up the heat in the second period, netting six goals apiece, with the home Buccaneers keeping the lead in their favor to secure a 15-9 win over the visiting Eagles.
Junior
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Sophomore
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) led the offensive front on the contest, burying four goals apiece. Shands also finished the evening battle with three grounders, two draw controls, and one assist, while Sherry noted three draw controls and an assist. Freshman
Coral Hulcher (Oakton, Va./Oakton) also had a strong showing on the game, as she was the only other Eagle to find the back of the net.
On the defensive end, Freshman
Logan Retzlaff (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) collected a game-high six grounders and recorded four caused turnovers. Goalkeeper
Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) also defended the cage well, as she topped on the night with an impressive 13 saves.
As a team, UNW fired off 29 shots, scooped 29 ground balls, matched BC in draw controls [13], and went 14-for-24 on clears.
