ST. PAUL, MINN – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team came up short against Augustana College [4-3 overall] Saturday morning on home turf. The visiting Vikings won the contest, 12-3, over the Eagles. With the loss, UNW drops to 1-3 on the season.
After AC took a 3-1 lead at the close of the first frame, the visiting Vikings tacked on four more goals in the second quarter to take a 7-1 advantage into the halftime break. Though Northwestern battled hard all throughout the two remaining periods, adding two goals to the scoreboard, it was Augustana who came out on top as they tallied five more goals on the game to secure a 12-3 win on the day's competition.
On the offensive front,
Christian Erickson (Buffalo, Minn./Delano),
Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo), and
Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) each recorded a lone goal on the contest. Vander Kooi also tallied a team-high seven shots, while also concluding with three ground balls.
As a team, UNW finished the contest with a grand total 13 shots [7 SOG], 16 grounders, and went 15-25 on clears.
