FULTON, MO. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team secured a dominant 14-1 victory over Westminster College [0-1] Saturday afternoon on the road. With the win, the Eagles start the season with a 1-0 record.
UNW put together a solid performance throughout the first 30:00 of play, fronting a sturdy 9-1 halftime lead over the home Blue Jays. The purple and gold then powered through the second half, netting five more goal to capture the season-opening victory, 14-1.
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) had an impressive presentation on the game, as the junior midfielder led the way with four goals, four draw controls, and two assists. Following suit, Sophomore
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) had a strong showing as she netted three goals on the mid-day game, while also stating three assists and three draw controls. Junior
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi) and Freshman
Coral Hulcher (Oakton, Va./Oakton) also competed well, as they finished the day with two goals apiece.
Concluding the contest, the Eagles also recorded a grand total of 37 shots, 29 shots on goal, and 19 caused turnovers, respectively.
