DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Northwestern softball team (19-20) saw its season come to a close Saturday, as the Eagles fell to top-seeded St. Scholastica (24-15), 7-1, on Championship Saturday of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament. UNW would have had to beat the host Saints twice to take home the title.
Chrisi Mizera was effective in the circle for CSS, as she spun a complete-game five-hitter to limit UNW's plate production. UNW scored its run in the top of the sixth when
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) came around to touch home off of a
Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) RBI knock.
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) led the Eagles at the plate, as the speedy sophomore finished 3-for-3 in the box, while Threlkeld added UNW's other two hits.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) was tagged with loss, as the senior went the distance, allowing seven runs on nine hits.
The Eagles say goodbye to outstanding senior class, as
Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy),
Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville),
Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins),
Ellen Larkin (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian),
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis),
Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis),
Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) and
Kristen Gotfredson (Little Falls, Minn./Central Lakes C.C.) all played their final game in a UNW uniform.
