ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's lacrosse team clinched a 15-4 victory over Northland College [0-12 overall] Wednesday evening on their home turf. With the win, the Eagles advance to 10-2 on the season.
Battling to a close first half score, UNW's strong offensive contributions paid off as they took a 6-3 lead at the intermission break.
Putting together an impressive second period, Northwestern used a collective effort to record nine more goals on the game, running away with a 15-4 win over the visiting team.
Jordyn Broberg (Mahtomedi, Minn./Montomedi) and
Hannah Shands (Hugo, Minn./Mahtomedi) paced the Eagles, sinking four goals and noting two assists apiece on the contest. Shands also won 10 draw controls on the night, scooped five ground balls, and noted one caused turnover, while Broberg finished with four draw controls, one grounder, and one caused turnover.
Annie Ellis (Farmington, Minn./Farmington) also put together a strong showing, finishing with three goals and one assist, while teammate
Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) dropped two goals and collected two assists.
Talia Sherry (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and
Jodi Bertrand (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls) each netted a lone goal on the contest, respectively.
On the defensive end, Goalkeeper
Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) caught seven saves for UNW.
As a team, the Eagles recorded 46 shots [35 SOG], picked up 28 grounders, won 18 draw controls, and went 9-11 on clears.
