Eagles Find Success Over Dallas; Capturing First-Ever Victory

DALLAS, TEXAS – The University of Northwestern men's lacrosse team recorded it's first-ever win in program history [10-5] Thursday afternoon over the University of Dallas [2-5] in Irvine, Texas. With the win, the Eagles advance to 1-3 on the season.

Wasting no time, the Eagles got on the board early, dropping three goals before the 6:00 marker in the first frame. Continuing to shine on the offensive end, UNW tacked on one more goal to close the period with a 4-0 advantage.

With strong stick handling abilities and a threatening attack, Northwestern and Dallas each went on to net two goals apiece in the second quarter, but it was UNW who held the lead at intermission [7-2].

Continuing on, the Eagles grew cold the next frame, as the Crusaders sank a lone goal to raise the score 7-3 – still in UNW's favor. Finishing strong, Northwestern knocked in three more goals to run away with their first-ever win [10-5] in program history.

Noah Vander Kooi (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) and Keller Stephens (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View ) had a strong showing on the game, as they each posted three goals apiece towards the Eagles success. Derek Stone (Ramsey, Minn./PACT Charter) also put forth a tremendous effort, as the sophomore attacker added two goals to the scoreboard, while Brady Minich (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) and Gavin Welch (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) each sank a goal and noted one assist.

On the defensive end, Goalkeeper Zach Shockencey (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) played an outstanding game, as he finished the contest with an impressive 13 saves.

As a collective group, UNW concluded the game with a grand total of 40 shots, 33 ground balls, and went 29-37 on clears.

The purple and gold will battle off next at Monmouth College on Friday, March 17. The match is set to get underway at 7 p.m. For more information on the men's lacrosse team, fans should visit unweagles.com.
