Eagles Clinch 2-1 Overtime Victory Against MLC; Pettit Earns 100th Career Win

ST. PAUL, MINN. – The University of Northwestern women's soccer team (3-2, 2-1 UMAC) battled Martin Luther College (2-5, 1-2 UMAC) on Saturday evening at Reynolds Field. The homecoming contest resulted in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Knights, which allowed head coach Josh Pettit to pick up his 100th career win at Northwestern.

Securing her first goal on the season, Anna Hitterdal (St. Louis Park, Minn./Southwest Christian) scored at the 19' mark to give Northwestern an early 1-0 lead. As a team, UNW held MLC from scoring as the first half came to a close.

Shortly after beginning the second period, the Knights succeeded in knocking in their first goal on the evening to tie the game 1-1. Both teams were not done fighting yet, as they each continued to persevere through the remainder of the half.

The competition went into a third period of play, and that was when Northwestern shined the most. At the 94', Dana Lehtinen (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) buried her first goal on the season, which allowed the Eagles to soar to a 2-1 victory over the Knights.

To conclude the match, UNW tallied 14 total shots and eight SOG.

The game leaders on the night were Hitterdal and Lehtinen who recorded 1S / 1SOG / 1G, Linley Norman (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) and Megan Larsen (Appleton, Wis./Appleton East) who marked 2S / 1SOG, Emily Goeppinger (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) and Katie Meinke (Victoria, Minn./Southwest Christian) who noted 1S / 1SOG, and Anna Martinson (Apple Valley, Minn./Homeschool) who logged the assist on the game-winning goal.

The women will host Century College on Monday, September 26th, for another home contest at Reynolds Field. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. Visit unweagles.com for more information.
