Eagles Fall Short To Pipers On Senior Night; Wrap Up First-Ever Season

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Northwestern (2-13) women's lacrosse competed against Hamline University (10-6) at Reynolds Field on Senior Night Tuesday. Putting forth a battling effort the entire 60:00, the Eagles fell short 16-4 to the Pipers to complete their first-ever season.
 
Hamline took the field ready for action, as they netted the first three goals of the game to gain a strong lead. Northwestern contended hard, as Grace Daggett (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) knocks in the first goal for the Eagles at the 21:34 mark to allow UNW to trail 3-1 to the Pipers.
 
HU then scored their fourth, as the Eagles were still on the attack. Making a 30 yard run, Jodi Bertrand (Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls) found the back of the net to give Northwestern their second goal with 14:07 left to play in the first. UNW still trailed HU 4-2.
 
Though the Eagles proceeded to put up a strong fight, the Pipers went on the rise to score six unanswered goals to stretch their lead 10-2.
 
UNW continued to battle, as Daggett was able to find a window of opportunity to knock in her second goal of the game with 2:18 left in the half, as Eugenia Chamberlain (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) earned the assist. Wrapping up the the first half of play, the Pipers lead 10-3.
 
The Eagles put forth a strong effort throughout the second half, as they trailed the Pipers 15-3 with 14:00 remaining. UNW earned its final goal of the season when Daggett sank her hat trick goal with 8:10 left on the clock.
 
To close the evening challenge, HU dropped one last goal under the lights to clinch the 16-4 victory over the Eagles.
 
Daggett secured three goals on the evening and Bertrand with one. Goalie, Sydney Werlein (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North), recorded nine saves to conclude with 79 overall.
 
As a team, the Eagle's tallied 273 shots (177 on goal) and 89 goals, earned 25 assists, shoveled 296 ground balls, had 163 draw controls, and received 53 free position shots to complete their first-ever season.
