Walk-Off Earns Split on Senior Day

ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern softball team won a thrilling, 3-2, eight-inning contest in game two of Monday's twin bill with visiting Hamline University to earn a split on Senior Day at Reynolds Field. The Pipers took game one, 5-3. The Eagles finish the regular season with an overall mark of 20-20, while Hamline moves to 23-15.

UNW honored its lone senior Morgan Pfaff (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) prior to first pitch. The win in game two was the 150th career win for UNW head coach Alicia du'Monceaux.

Game One
Hamline scored the first five runs of game one and the Eagles were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 5-3.

UNW scored in the third when Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) posted a bunt single, stole second and came around to score on an errant throw to second base.

Jennifere Ankrom drilled an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to account for UNW's second run, while Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) recorded an RBI groundout in the bottom of the seventh to deliver the Eagles' third run.

Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) and Megan Collins (Wabasha, Minn./Wabasha-Kellogg) finished with two hits apiece to lead the way for UNW. Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) was tagged with the loss, as the junior went the distance in the circle, allowing three earned runs.

Game Two
After Hamline opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the first, UNW responded with a two-run third to even the score at 2-2. Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley Watkins) lined an RBI double down the left field line and Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) delivered a run-scoring single to account for UNW's runs.

With the score remaining 2-2 through seven innings of play, the international tiebreaker came into play in the eighth. UNW shut down the Pipers in the top half of the eighth and Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) came around to score the game-winning run on an Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) bunt to help the Eagles salvage the doubleheader.

Lokke led the Eagles at the plate, as she posted a pair of hits. Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) picked up the win in the circle pitching in relief of starter Meghan Schroeder (Big Lake, Minn./Spectrum). Silbernick didn't allow a run in the final two innings of play.

UNW will travel to Duluth for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament at the end of the week. The action will get underway for the No. 2-seeded Eagles Thursday, as they will take on the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 2 p.m. Fans can find more information at www.unweagles.com.
