Saints Trip Up Eagles in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Northwestern softball team suffered just its second and third losses in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play Saturday, as the Eagles dropped a doubleheader at the College of St. Scholastica. The Eagles fell by scores of 9-1 and 13-3 at Kenwood Field.

UNW falls to 15-19 overall and 9-3 in league play, while CSS moves to 17-13 overall and 9-1 in conference contests.

Game One
The host Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead early and never looked back, taking the opener 9-1. UNW's lone run came in the top of the fifth when Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley Watkins) came around to score.

Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville), Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy) and Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley Watkins) accounted for UNW's three hits in the contest.

Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing five earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Game Two
The Eagles fell behind 8-0 after the first inning and couldn't overcome the big deficit, falling 13-3.

UNW battled until the final pitch, getting on the board in the top of the third when Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) stole third and then scored on an errant throw.

Jennifer Ankrom (New Hampton, Iowa/New Hampton) highlighted the afternoon in Duluth for UNW, smashing a two-run homer in the top of the fifth to trim the Saints' lead. It was Ankrom's team-leading third home run of the season.

Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis), Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy), Emily Geurkink (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville) and Ankrom all posted a hit apiece at the plate.

Meghan Schroeder (Big Lake, Minn./Spectrum) was tagged with the loss in the circle. Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) worked the final three innings in relief of Schroeder.

The Eagles will continue conference play when Minnesota Morris makes a trip to Reynolds Field next Wednesday. First pitch in the doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. Fans can find more information at www.unweagles.com.
