ST. PAUL – The University of Northwestern softball team pushed its win streak to seven games with a sweep against visiting Northland College Saturday at Reynolds Field. The Eagles won the opener 7-3 before taking game two, 3-2, in walk-off fashion.
UNW improves to 12-16 overall and 7-1 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, while Northland falls to 2-22 overall and 1-5 in league games.
Game One
UNW scored a combined six runs in the first three innings to give itself a comfortable lead and
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) found her groove in the circle to lead the Eagles to the 7-3 victory.
Colleen Feldheim (Northfield, Ill./Loyola Academy) sparked the offense in game one, as she finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis),
Ellen Larkin (Excelsior, Minn./Southwest Christian) and
Kaylee Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley Watkins) all added two hits apiece at the plate. Feldheim recorded RBI singles in the first and third innings, while
Megan Threlkeld (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville) ripped an RBI double in the second. Lokke and Larkin also added RBI knocks in the contest.
Silbernick hurled all seven innings, allowing just three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out three.
Game Two
In a pitchers dual that was tied at 2-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh,
Ann Lokke (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis) drove a pitch to the outfield that was mishandled by the right fielder to allow
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) to cross home with the game-winning run.
Mindy Forcier (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) was responsible for three of UNW's six hits in game two, as the freshman finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while scoring a pair of runs.
Lauren Silbernick (Osakis, Minn./Osakis) picked up her second win of the day, as she hurled a scoreless seventh in relief of starter
Meghan Schroeder (Big Lake, Minn./Spectrum). Schroeder allowed just one earned run in six innings of work.
